Opel Insignia 2015 2.0 CDTi issue

Hi, i bought a 2015 opel insignia last August. The car is automatic. Shortly after purchasing the car an issue appeared. This issue is where i am out driving and suddenly the car would lose power, for example i would have the foot to the floor and could only get to 40kms an hour. I would switch to manual control and the issue would remain. It has happened on the open road but happens frequently at traffic lights and from a standing start it happens.

The garage where i purchased the car have been very helpful in trying to find the issue. They have had it back 3 times and could not find anything. It has now been returned from Gear Box specialists and they could not find anything either. Ironically, 2 days before they got the car, the engine light did appear on the dashboard and stayed on until the day i gave it to them, it was off.

I have had videos made in the car by a passenger showing the dashboard readings etc.

Would anyone have any idea what may be happening here?

I’ve an insignia that does the same, just goes into limp mode but if I turn the engine off and on it’s fine.

My mechanic hasn’t been able to figure it out. The car hasn’t moved in 6 months so I stopped trying to figure it out.

Power loss and engine light on these cars usually mean a split in the hose between the intercooler and intake. But the garage should be well aware of this.

Hi thanks for reply, that's right, i forgot to say they mentioned Limp mode but they don't think its that, and yes when i turn the car off and on it re-sets its self.

When it happens on the open road, i find it dangerous with the sudden loss of power.

Would the issue happen continously then? at the moment it happens at different times, i.e, i could go two days without it happening.

Yes, for me it was happening sometimes with sudden acceleration, not always, and the issue went away after stopping.
It's easy to check, you need to feel around the hose, top side at the engine, as the split is usually on the back, not visible. If this is the problem fix it asap, it will clog up the DPF

    Thanks for that

Has the fuel filter been changed?
Common on these for the symptoms you describe if its over due a fuel filter.

Its going in for a due service in next few days and ill have that checked with a full check of the car.

Straight away I would be checking the EGR valve and DPF to see how full/clogged they are. Split hoses as mentioned also but normally they are joined by a whoooshing noise I think.

These cars are known for being a pile of s***e, a rudimentary Google search will tell you.

They gen an unfair amount of blame given that most of their problems are not serious and generally cheap to fix, also there's a lot of them, it was the car of choice for rep cars. The only serious problem is that oil pump seal issue, and even that one only happens to high mileage cars.
I was quite happy with mine.
