Staining Maple Hardwood Floors

    Hi

Wondering has anyone (successfully) stained maple hardwood floors? I have maple hardwood floors in my hallway / sitting room, and would like to get them stained to a slightly darker colour, but I am getting mixed reviews as to whether this can be done.

Has anyone just sanded and varnished their maple floors - and were they happy with the result? Hardwearing / long lasting?

    Any advice or experience appreciated,

    Maura

Probably too late with this but maybe you havent done it yet!
Maple is quite difficult to stain and especially in a darker type colour.
It has a very dense grain which makes it difficult to keep the stain even and avoid the blotchy look.
Lighter to medium shades are easier to work with and when stained and varnished properly will look and wear as good as any hardwood.
