Tax/Emergency Tax

    Hi,

    I recently changed job and registered said job with MyRevenue,
    My old job sent me my holiday pay of 664 but I was charged 315, with this tax so high I assume it is emergency tax/ tax of that kind,
    How can I claim this back to some extent?

    As you have a new job, presumably all your tax and USC credits and bands (showing on your RPN) are allocated to your new employer. Your old employer paid you a post-termination payment, but because your RPN is allocated to your new employer, they would have had to charge the highest rates of PAYE and USC on it.

    You can log into myAccount to make sure your RPN is allocated to your current employer on a cumulative basis, and can also check that your full previous pay and tax for the year (including your holiday pay) is up to date. If this is the case, then the next time your current employer is processing your payroll, they will pull down the details from your most up to date RPN and you should receive any overpayment of PAYE and USC back in that payslip (you'll see this by way of your PAYE and USC being lower than the normal rate for that pay period).
