    Hi folks,

Looking to change car soon, currently have a 2007 5 series as our family car and looking at moving to a 14/15 Octavia vRS TSI hatch/wagon (ideally DSG).

Just wondering if anyone else has made a similar move and what their observations were? Apart from a slightly dull interior, a slightly firm ride and the fact that its FWD rather than AWD or RWD, I can't find a huge amount of negative commentary out there.

The mk3 face-lift models offered 4x4 and dsg. You'd probably have to look in Northern Ireland or mainland UK to find one.

I have a saloon 2014 vrs and have no complaints about the car. Just watch for water pump replacement on the earlier mk3 models as some of them had tendancy to leak.

I'd say the biggest difference will probably be cabin soundproofing and road noise. In saying that a 2014/2015 Octavia is obviously 7 or 8 years younger than a 2007 so soundproofing in that class has probably improved over that time and there may not be a noticeable difference.

    Exactly this,
Be prepared for a big increase inroad noise.

I found the MK3 much more refined than the MK2 which was quite noisy and rough all round. The factory Bridgestones really didn't help the MK3 but the right tyres make a huge difference to them in my experience - put Goodyear's on mine and it genuinely transformed the car.

Still won't be as quiet as the E60, the sound deadening just isn't there in them and it's quite a large area in the back for sound to reverberate around.

Even compared to a Passat, the sound deadening isn’t as good. It’s not unacceptable but there are definitely quieter cars out there!
That said, it’s way quieter than my Civic was. It’s mainly tyre noise from the rear. the 18s don’t help matters. As above the choice of tyre makes a difference.
