Quit job already - When do I apply

    Hi,

Left my job in September for various reasons and as it was on my accord (didn't have GP note or anything) I thought that I would be excluded for 9 weeks beginning on the last day etc.

Can I open up a claim now in advance of the 9 week exclusion period/on the change they grant it early given the circumstances.. If so, is it better to go for JSB as I would have had enough 'stamps' paid already?

    TIA

Always go for JSB if you have enough contributions. You should apply now and let them decide if your reasons for leaving are validate the 9 week waiting period. Make sure you tell them that your last date worked was in September or you may risk them starting the 9 week period from the date of your application.

You should always apply immediately, never wait to apply, if you were excluded for 9 weeks you can still put in the application..

Just to let you know, I quit my job on a friday in february, and i went to the office straight away and applied, they didn't bother excluding me for 9 weeks and i had my payment approved within a week...

I applied for JSB as i had enough 'stamps'

you're better off just going straight to the office, like i did, just talk with them and they will go through your options, they were extremely helpful to me and did not care that i had quit my job, they were very understanding

If someone applies too late for a benefit, will/can they get paid for the time when they should've being claiming?

If someone applies too late for a benefit, will/can they get paid for the time when they should've being claiming?

It's at the discretion of the SW Deciding Officer (DO).

The applicant can request the DO to consider backdating the payment and if possible set out the reasons in writing (on a note attached to the application form) why they didn't apply in time.

    Hi,

Just as a follow on to this, I got approved late October. Included in the documentation was a part time education option form, which seems to be for when you wish to start a course whilst receiving the benefit. As part of my original application I included a part time course that had just commenced, I hardly need to send this form back if it's for a course already declared?
