2 car household, was planning on changing my car late this year going new or almost new. Been working from home since March and now according to work its going to continue into end Jan 2021 at least my car has barely moved in 6 months.

Looking for something with decent space to load 3 dogs, bikes, surfboards and to carry 3 people ( not all together :) ) and it will only be used weekends.

Budget is 4kish/ petrol or diesel /low tax ideally

I am not VAT registered so any crewcabs commercials will be taxed and insured privately. 4 wheel drive is not essential but if I had it would prob take it further offroad. Any recommendations appreciated.

Ford mondeo Estate? Massive boot and rear passenger space. Can get a roof rack for surf boards etc.

    don't go near a 1.8 ford

Why? The mother had one in a Fiesta and while it did not sound great it was a tough old engine and had plenty if power also the Dad had it in the S-Max and it was good there two although the 2litre in the S-Max was the better engine the 1.8 was the one he went for. Its plenty big and plenty of power for a Mondeo.

@OP The Mondeo is a good choice but the Skoda Octavia estate or Superb are good options too.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

Yep, please elaborate and maybe offer up a suggestion yourself instead of knocking others? There was a 1.8 mondeo in the family for years and never a problem with it.

Thanks all for the responses - am going off on a tangent now as I have decided to at least double my budget and look over in the UK for a Pre-1990 Defender ( with a good chassis....) Had one before so have an idea of what I am getting on for and can work away on it. Will spend the next 2 months looking and bring one in hopefully in Dec and take advantage of the 200E VRT and classic tax...

Strange thing, he has the Nike swoosh on his sign, there was a dealer in Ennis called Hayes (other side of the country) who briefly did Mitsubishi’s that had the swoosh too.

Darren Hayes one of the directors! Must be a Nike fan.
