Google pay question

Just set up google pay, added card etc and all seemed to work. The only problem is I do not appear to have a way to send money, only contactless payment or add another card. Is this normal? I though you could send/receive money?

It's just a payment method for other services. You could fund a service that transferred money but nothing within Google to do that
