Does the 6 month rule still apply?

    Hi,

I previously had a learner permit which I got in March 2012. It expired in March 2014.

I have now applied for a new learner permit in the NDLS office today (completed theory test, eye test, etc. one moth ago) as my old was expired by more than 5 years, so I'm just waiting for it to arrive in the post.

My question is do I still have to wait 6 months before I can sit my driving test or will the fact that I previously had a learner mean that I can apply for it straight away? I'm just confused because on the RSA website it says "first time learner permit holders must wait 6 months".

It'll be 6 months before you can apply for the test. I fell into that same hole.

Not sure if the 6 month rule applies to you, but you can apply for test regardless - then ring them and they should be able to tell you if you have the 6 month hold being applied to your application. Unfortunately they’re reporting today that the average wait is now 8 months for a test so you’ll have your 6 months very much done by that time also.
