Could someone recommend a really nice one?

With a swanky spa, maybe a thermal suite.

    What's the budget?

Also, spa's obviously are tricky at the moment.

For example, Maryborough hotel in Cork has a beautiful spa with thermal suite, but access is limited to 20 minutes due to covid I believe. You'd have to ring and check what the rules are in each

    G hotel in Galway
    The Cliff house in waterford
    The Europe hotel in kerry
    Aghadoe heights in kerry
    Ice house hotel in Mayo

The usual spa suspects, Monart, Powerscourt, Seafield, Farnham estate, Ashford castle.

Thanks, i haven't heard of some of these.

    Budget is "movable".

But Cliff house is tipping 600 a night for some nights over the next few weeks! Crazy. Powerscourt not much better. Europe and monart booked out. G has spa restrictions.

You might find a lit of places when you arrive, actually have serious reatrictions. We were about to book lively soa place inly then hears the spa was closed when we rang to ask about the restaurant - you could book a treatment so technically the spa was open but the water suite - ie pool, sauna, steam room, jacuzzii were actually shut - well worth checking before you shell out.

Also - family member booked ‘fancy’ ‘family’ hotel with big pool area - only open for 30 minute swims and you had to come down in your bathrobe as the showerroom and wet areas were shut - only one booking allowed for the pool per family per visit :0

Also - some hotels not aLlowing you to order cocktails and sit around in the reataUraNt as they want you gone as quickly as possible - public areas closed - but will serve you ( at a room service rate) drinks in your bedroom - well worth checking all the details before you pay out big money for a ‘luxury’ weekend.

Don’t know if its open or what the restrictions are but Castle Durrow ( old rooms not attic or garden rooms) were always Luxury. Real luxury spot. They have a victorian spa ( heads poking out of steam boxes & various body treatments). Always loved that place & they always treated you like royalt there.

For mass product but lovely ( wouldn’t be sure about the kids running all over the place now) Seafield, and ex Radison Blue in Cavan used be lovely and hd great pool area and spa - I think its under new ownership now. Beware the glass wall into the bedroom in the ensuites if you have modesty issues!!

Would you do something crazy like hire a barge / Shannon Cruises - weather is still beautiful this time of year & you couod get lots of booze in and munch take aways up & down the shannon - probably better craic that you’d have locked into a bedroom in a hotel & definately more variety & fun!* pack a hotwater bottle & jumper! Bankside BBQ’s and stacks of beers and a cooler full of wine!! ....
