Any reccomendations on some good certifications for a beginner in IT that would help land an entry position? completely okay with the pay being low, mainly looking to build experience.

So what branch of IT do you want to get into ?

    Programming
    Infrastructure
    Security
    Management

And I could expand each of those into another 10 catagories. You need to figure out what interests you. Otherwise IT is a thankless, demanding mistress.

Apologies for being quite vague, security and management would interest me, specifically management!

I always give the advice of spending maybe a year on Service Desk. It gives you a good grounding and an idea of the "coal face" of IT support.
After that you'll be in a much better position to decide what you'd like to specialise in.

I am currently in management, but looking to get back out of it. Depending on the company you are managing an IT function for, it can be a souless experience. However companies vary and so may your mileage.
