Changing bathroom extractor fan

The extractor fan in my bathroom is wired up to the lighting - so only comes on with the lights.

In hindsight that was a mistake, as it means I can’t have the fan running without the lights on (so it doesn’t really go on during the day) - and I can’t have the lights on at night without putting up with the racket from the fan (so no nice, relaxing baths or... other things).

I checked the switch and there’s only one set of wires there, which ends my hope of wiring them to separate switches.

So instead I’m thinking of putting in smart bulbs and swapping the extractor fan for one that has a physical switch (or possibly one with a humidity sensor - not sure if they’re much use). That would hopefully allow me to leave the wired switch on but control the lights & fan separately.

Any reason why the above would be a bad idea? And is there anything I should bear in mind when picking a replacement fan?
