    Hi all!

I was viewing a car earlier today and noticed some damage to the sound proofing under the bonnet.

    Picture 1

    Picture 2

Any ideas what might cause this?

    The car is a Honda Civic 2009 1.8 i-VTEC SE 5dr

    Thanks!

Hmm i wonder if a rodent was eating or using it for nesting and look around engine bay for chew marks elsewhere.

    Rats or something.

Off topic a bit but an ES or EX is a much nicer spec.
    Panoramic roof transforms them.

it's more heat shield you can buy replacement
if it's rats you will see damaged wires

They don’t just disintegrate. Mine was 12 years old when I sold it and the under bonnet cover was as new.

    Thanks for the replies everyone.

Rodents or coolant hose both plausable - cheers. If it was the coolant hose, surely it would need to be under a lot of strain for that to pop?

I'd say rodents, seeking out heat. More common in cars in rural settings.

Looks like the right shape and location for a modified cone air filter installation. Maybe it was cut out to make room for such a filter and then reverted back to standard.

Some civic owners like a bit of extra induction noise
