    Hey All

in market for new phone, had eye on Ulefone Armour 9, but its taken back burner , so looking at either A51 5g or A71 4g, worth getting 5g at this stage
last phone was S7 so I keep em a fair while?

    Opinions appreciated

Imo 5g is not widespread enough to make it worth the extra money.

Entirely depends, are you willing to pay for a 5g plan and live in an area where there would be sufficient 5g coverage?

Isnt 5G free for all plans with Three?

Sums up my thoughts on it. I'm sure it's different for others in other areas but I quite often find myself switching to 3G instead of 4G. I've yet to have a decent 3G connection and thought "Hmmm, this is fine but I'd rather run the battery down much quicker.".

You can buy a good chinese 5g phone for 230 euros but 5g outside cities may never work

I don't think that 5G is not yet launched on Three

If your signing up to another 24 month contract id either go with the 5G to future proof as the roll out of 5G will expand greatly over the next 12 months. Or stick with the phone you have for a bit longer if that's an option. Id imagine by the end of next year all phones ( except really cheap pre pay) will be 5G.

It's very very close to being and not confined to city's like a poster above suggested.

Inside info? Can you share any more?

Rumour in the industry is next couple of weeks I'm guessing their outage today shows something is going on with upgrading the network and store staff were apparently telling customers it was due to their 5G launch.Eir has similar issues in the run up to their 5G launch im I remember correctly.

Their 3G and 4G network is dire and has been for years so I don't have much hope for their 5G.

    From Three -
Going live shortly Add On is 5e for 28day Prepay Booster and 5e for SIM Only.

"Yes. these 5G products are available to you today – to work they must be used with a 5G Capable device and they require your place of regular use to be in a 5G area so we also have a 5G coverage checker online also. We are getting these 5G Products system ready. There will be even more detail around the 5G Technology rollout from Three very shortly."

Thanks to boards user @KikdareP this find - updated Bill Pay price plans

I've checked my address and several other random places around Dublin City centre. They say indoor for 2,3 and 4 G but only coverage for 5G. Does that mean it only works outdoors?

Not sure about that mate at a guess probably outdoors, 5G works on higher frequencies so will have less penetration than the others.

I was wondering this myself a few weeks ago. Went for a Poco x3. 4g handset. I didn't see the value in a 5g phone when I was on 4g only network. Also, hoping that 5g will take the weight off 4g.

Which defeats the purpose of 5G. They are saying that 5G will revolutionise the world with IoT devices everywhere and an alternative to home WiFi, not much good if it doesn't work indoors where most people will be using their phone and devices.

That will change next year when the low frequency 700 MHz coverage band (Band n28), one of the EU's 5g "Pioneer bands", is auctioned off by Comreg in a multi-band spectrum award, this band was cleared of TV broadcasting in March.

The current 5g band is the high frequency high capacity 3.4-3.8 GHz band (Band 42/43), the EU's 5g "Primary Pioneer band". 5g services were initially launched in this band due to its size and availability across the EU.

5G needs to be deployed in bands harmonized below 1 GHz, in particular the 700 MHz band, in order to enable nationwide and indoor 5G coverage

Lower frequencies, such as 700 MHz, are better suited to provide widespread coverage (both geographic and indoor)

The 700 MHz band consists of low frequency spectrum which by virtue of its propagation characteristics is particularly well suited for providing wide-area and indoor mobile coverage, because signals carried in the 700 MHz band are able to travel long distances and penetrate obstacles such as buildings.

The physical characteristics of the 700 MHz band means it is particularly well-suited to achieving wide-area and indoor coverage.

The three EU 5G pioneer bands:
    Low band 700 MHz
    Middle band 3.4 – 3.8 GHz (3.6 GHz band)
    High band 24.25 – 27.5 GHz (26 GHz band)

It will work but you may need to boost it coming into the house depending on location and type of house. As far as I know they'll be offering home installs where it struggles indoors. There's a lot of people still out there on copper and 3g broadband it'll be a good alternative for them.

Tend to buy hansdets outright as I find better value, my understanding is 5g would just become a normal item not a premium connection as it is seen right now, but looks likes its a way off yet, I wouldnt pay a premium for it

its the A51 5g had eye on, few good deals on amazon for it
