Best method of payment buying a car privately

    Hi,

What is the best way of paying for a car for sale privately? I've never spent more than 10k on a car so the idea of cash didn't bother me. I'm looking at spending ~25k and just a little cautious of dealing with that much cash.

Any experience selling or buying? What is the preferred method?

    Cheers

Bank transfer is safest. Revolut would be quicker, but you'd have to both have accounts, and then transfer the money in.

Make sure you have the car 100% checked out, mechanically and financially.

I wouldn't deal in that much cash, additionally if you agree to meet him in his branch with the cash and put it in his account it will flag a money laundering report. Verify his ID matches the name on the logbook and meet at his address which matches what's on the logbook. Bank transfer or bank draft issued in their bank should satisfy the seller.

With that level of money, as said do a full check, could be finance outstanding which will mean car can be taken from you if money outstanding. Then when all your checks are done next check that the car is not cloned from another, check VIN, engine number etc matches logbook.

Cheers for replies. Will have all checks done prior to buying. It's more just the transaction I was curious about.
