Insulating an old hallway

We have an old house with the original wooden floors. These are on joists with no access from below. Our hall way gets cold relative to other parts of the house and I was wondering what we should be looking at?

There is an access point under the stairs that has a few parts where the wood separates. I was wondering should I seal that? Also would it be expensive to lift boards up?

The only thing we have done is looking at the front door for any draughts.
