Quick query on VRT - Transfer of Residence -

    Hi

I'm bringing my car back soon when moving back to Ireland from the UK.

Having checked it out, I am eligible for a VRT exemption under the transfer of residence rules.

My current UK insurer advised I'm covered for 90 days of driving within the EU.

I just wanted to ask anyone who has done same recently and brought their car back and availed of the 'ToR' VRT exemption what the process was?

I have already sent off the relevant logbook section to the DVLA to advise them of the permanent export.

Is the rest of the process like so...

    1. Fill in the Revenue's Transfer of Residence form and provide the requested documentation (proof of residence abroad etc)
    2. Send it off to the relevant department / office
    3. Apply for a NCT test when I bring the car back
    4. Register the car here so I can obtain an Irish reg and can then tax it

What am I missing above? Do I have to wait for Revenue to send me out a form to confirm I am eligible for the exemption before I head in for the NCT?

Am I generally safe to drive the car on UK plates given I will have applied and the car is still insured (not sure on motor tax implications) in the period between arriving off the ferry and getting it registered in Ireland?

I have read this through and I'm not 100% clear on the whole thing so appreciate any straight forward advice: https://www.revenue.ie/en/importing-vehicles-duty-free-allowances/guide-to-vrt/reliefs-and-exemptions/transfer-of-residence.aspx

    Cheers

If your MOT has over 6 months remaining you can send off and have it transferred to NCT
