Recording to a USB stick?

Thinking of buying a combo Sat/Freeview box and having had a look around the best value appears to be had from buying one without a built in hard drive. The 2 issues I have a bit of concern with.

Is there any real difference between recording on to a USB stick as opposed to an internal hard drive?

Secondly would series link work OK when recording to stick?

All comments and advice welcome :)

USB sticks aren't designed for repeated long term writing/rewriting. You may also run into speed problems. An internal HDD or SSD is definitely preferable or even a portable (USB drive) if the box does not support internal.
Series linking should not be affected either way.

Thanks Gerry. Yeah, good point about writing/rewriting on the USB sticks.
