What issues could there be on a pre-registered car that has sat in a showroom for the last year?

    Cracked tyres, seized brakes.

Sounds an odd thing to do when they would have had nearly a year to sell it. You sure it's not just an ex demo?

Not ex demo as there is less than 30 kilometres on it. Tyres were a concern for me, thought they might get a flat spot if the car was not moved about. Never thought of brakes but it makes sense they might bind if the car is not moved either.

What about oil? Would it require an oil change? And I presume the battery should be OK too.

I assume when it hits 12 months it's due an oil change

What model of car is it? It’s very strange for a car to sit around for 18 months after registering it.

Probably less issues than "brand new" unregistered cars that sat on some overflow car park outside for months ...there must be quite a few of those about as well

It's an odd one alright to have it unsold for so long. Would you go for this or the same year one with less than 20k on the clock for 3k less?

The tyres would not be flat spotted as they move the cars about in the showrooms at least anyone who runs a good showroom and wants to sell the car does.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

Anyone who runs a garage properly doesn’t register a car and leave it sitting around for 18 months.

Have you looked at the lowest price you’ll get a brand new one for? How much less is this?

Keep in mind discounts off a new car etc.

    Not necessarily!

The car might have been registered to an owner and that owner died with finance still owning on car or the garage still owed money for the car.

Or the owner died in the trade in car.
Or the owner died and the family contested whoever the car was to be left to.

The garage couldn't deregister the car as owner was still alive but in hospital but later passed.

Legal and finance cases and probate are a slow process.

My mother bought a late 03 brand new pre reg in Spring 04. It can happen.

How much of a discount are you getting off it vs the price of a new reg of exact same spec?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,516 ✭✭✭RosieJoe

New they are 47. This one is up for 39. Ones with 20k on the clock are going for 35.5 but they are a lesser spec

What car is it. Some cars can be bought with a wack load of discount anyway so you might find a €47k car could have €5k off.

Keep in mind that it’s nearly 2 years old so unless you intend to keep the car for a long time you’ll lose out come trade-in time.

    Is it a 191 or 192 reg?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,516 ✭✭✭RosieJoe

Car is a Mitsubishi Outlander. Plan was to keep it for at least 3 years

That I am unsure of. Forgot to clarify that. Makes at least a 6 month difference

Bear in mind 35.5k is the asking price, not the selling price.

Check versus the cost of briniging one in from UK.

    Good luck with purchase.

    It's a blackline diesel

I would say the diesel outlander is a hard sell for the dealer, and anyone buying one would seriously want to think about how old the current outlander model is. It’s been out 8 years now and is on its second facelift.

Anyone looking at a diesel Outlander over the likes of a Skoda Karoq, Seat Taracco or VW Tiguan Allspace is bonkers in my opinion.

The Oulander PHEV sells for its plug in tech despite its gopping styling and questionable interior, I can’t see any reason to buy a diesel one unless it’s very very cheap.

Mitsubishi’s position in Europe is tenuous enough, and their current lineup is seriously weak.

    Is this it OP?

    https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/mitsubishi-outlander-4wd-mt-black-edition-no-mile/24866112

This may have been a showrrom car until it was registered in late 2019 to avoid the NOx charge that was introduced in 1 Jan 2020.

Anyone know the Nox on these? It may be high!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,712 ✭✭✭User1998

Its 2019 so most likely less than €350 or so, maximum would be €600 but thats unlikely

Anything post 2016 would be Euro6 so wouldn’t be significant.

Beepbeep.ie is saying there were no diesel Outlanders sold in 2020.

Did they discontinue the diesel last year I wonder?

With them pulling out and their line up a shambles I wouldn't touch unless it's dirt cheap.

Phev was selling well in them possible why it was left.... Wonder was it a quota thing registering it or as you say Colm....

Its a weird one but then not a complete shock when you see a primera on 2011 plates yet they were done in 2007....

That's the one. Diesels were discontinued in 2019 with the blackline being the last ones sold.
