Scrappage options

    Hi folks

Just looking for a little advice regarding my 2002 Passat. It needs a bit of work to get through the Nct and I fancy a change as it owes me nothing by now.

To sell privately I reckon isn’t worth it. Would most likely cost more to pass the test than I’ll get from a buyer.

So aside from asking a dealer to give something for it...would I have any scrappage options ? To get maybe a few hundred bob for it?

If buying a brand new car dealers may have a 'scrappage' discount, Nissan have one at the moment...

    Thanks Atlantic.
But I’m not buying New (sorry, should have mentioned that).

It’s worth what it’s worth, anything more you get for it than that in a deal is going onto the other end.

    Right.
But reason I ask is buying a 2nd hand privately opens up more options. So far I’m not getting much of a response on a trade in (not very surprising).

    It’s worthless.

Best option is to try sell as-is for €100-200 or scrap it at a legit recycler.
As you say, then you can buy whatever you want without the complication of a trade in.

I got 150 euro for a non running Peugeot 406. Called a scrapper and he came to collect it, the 150 was a bonus I just wanted rid of it.

Place in cavan, he was in Dublin so he collected and gave me cash.

    100bhp tdi or 130bhp tdi?

    Or is it petrol?

Is there any test left at all on it?

    Nope.
Test was out in April, delayed by lockdown.

Hard know what you'd get tbh the fact it's a 130tdi gives it some level of desirability. Some of the we buy any car type crowds might give you €100-200 for it or a private seller might either maybe even a bit more if its a good colour. If selling private get a burner sim though.

Scrap value you're looking at sub €100 at a proper vehicle recycling centre with end of life cert.

The fellas buying things to break and strip a few valuable parts off may give €100+

Thanks. Very true on the burner sim!
The nuisance calls are why Im thinking just better off to go the scrappage route
