Long fly with curling tail

Any help identifying a bug/fly.
It's a fly, but not like one I've ever seen before.

It looks quite like a beetle, long, thin, and black, but under the transparent fly-type wings it has a long tail that can curl upwards, with yellow spots.

Any ideas?

Definitely not a fly, has the looks of a Devils Coach-Horse about it so a sort of Rove Beetle. It's a very big family but the nearest I can come up with is Staphylinus caesareus.....

And this is a beetle that can fly?
Because this was definitely flying.

Yep, lots of Beetles can fly. They keep their wings neatly folded beneath their elytra, the hard shell on the 'back'. Ladybirds fly, Maybugs and a lot of the Water Beetles colonise new 'ponds' by dropping in from the sky.....
