If you think about doing it, I am sharing the method I used a while ago

    Here's what you do:

    1. Go to Google Maps and enter your home address

    2. Enter into Street View mode by dragging the small yellow human-shaped icon, found in the bottom-right corner of the screen, onto the map in front of your house

    3. With your house in view, click "Report a problem" in the bottom-right corner of the screen

    4. Center the red box on your home, and select "My home" in the "Request blurring" field

    5. Write in the provided field why you want the image blurred (for example, you may be concerned about safety issues)

    6. Enter in your email address, and click "Submit"

    Important:
Be sure it's what you want. Google warns you that once it has blurred your house on Street View "it is permanent."

What if you don't have a house?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,825 ✭✭✭Relikk

So anybody can just pick a house, say it's theirs and request it to be blurred? Apart from geolocation, they don't have any checks during this process to confirm that it's your house?

Any tips on how to “blur” it in real life view?

They better knock it down completely, just to be completely sure nobody can see it.

I blurred mine in real life a few weeks ago.
Took ages to find the keyhole after a skinfull.

Those steps in the OP say nothing about proving it’s your house you’re blurring.

So are you saying you can just randomly get any property in the country permanently blurred, and all you have to provide is a brief reason and an email address?

You haven't quite said it, but say I pretended to line in House 1 and said "Blur my house!"? I live in House 2, but have blurred my neighbour's house permanently.

And to blurring your house in real-life, it's simple: Use Romulan cloaking devices, stoopid!!

Step 7: Go down to Tesco's and avail of the special deal on tin foil.

It might be a good idea if the entire block of houses on a road did it, if you just do yours it will become a tourist attraction with people travelling from all over the country to see what the blurred house is.

And alert the robbers that you have something to hide.

    Plant a hedge.

Or install a smoke machine in the front garden.

It'd be handy if you wanted to hide the cars on blocks and washing machines on the lawn.

I get up when I want, except on Wednesday when I get rudely awakened by Google.
I put me trousers on, have a cup of tea, and I think about blurrin me house.

Well you just request to blur the doorway/tent you're living in

It’s very common in Germany. Almost has street view ruined in some areas.

If I see a blurred house on Street View I just assume it's a drug dealers house.

Street view shows nothing more than what is visible from a passing car.

Do people have problems with the public seeing their house from the street?

    Ridiculous paranoia.
