Money missing

Money has been stolen from my bag in work. I wont go into too many details, but there is no doubt about it that someone in my job has stolen from me on more than one occasion. My boss has said he is taking it seriously but that there is nothing he do about it and basically it was my fault for bringing money to work.....
I do understand that you need to be 100% sure before you can accuse someone but he is telling me we can't set her up or we can't put up a camera without telling the staff in question ...surely there is something we can do to catch them???

That's awful. Is there many working there in terms of narrowing it down

Mark a note, and take a photo of it.Then let them steal it. Write or make a unique mark on corner of note, something small.

Not sure how you get them to reveal that note, though. Maybe ask them do they have a ''20'' for two ''10's'' and then they give you your 20 , boom!

Put a ‘confetti bomb’ or similar in the bag and see who sets it off. Just don’t forget about it and accidentally set it off yourself.

Do a bait bag.... Look up twinztv on YouTube, they put fart spray and other stuff in a container, open the bag and boom.... You're covered in it.

Obviously only right thing though is do not carry cash, do not leave it unattended at any time and I'd you need money use a prepaid debit card and you can control the spending and even block the card till you need to use it on the app on phone.

Likes of revolut are great.

That's awful. Where was it taken from? Staff room, main office?

Putting up cctv would be a great way to deter theft but its costly and your boss is correct, you cannot secretly record staff.

I'm not sure how you can find the culprit, perhaps secure lockers would be an option your boss could consider.

Don't leave cash unattended. Simple fix.

Yes. Your boss has a point. The thief will go straight and claim entrapment, and constructive dismissal. There are solicitors in Ireland who make a carreer out of supporting such players. Sorry I don't have any positive suggestion for you.

Nah.. Just put some blue dye in your purse and let the thief expose themselves.

Unfortunately very little your manager can do. Don't leave valuables or money lying around.

Get a few duds, and let her steal them. Or put one of those dye bombs in your bag that they use in banks, you lose a bag but you'll make someone blue for a while, it's a good quid pro quo

There’s a dye that the police use.
You put it on a note and when they handle it the dye gets on their hand and won’t wash off for a few days. I think it’s called Malacite Blue or a name similar to that.

The London police used it in a place I worked to catch a thief but I think you can buy it in a chemists.
