    Hi all,

    I've a 07 30d with 180000 miles on the clock.

Only getting offered 1k - 1.5k on a trade in.

Would i be better trying to sell privately or is the hassle not worth it?

    Thanks.

There's the first one I found on donedeal, it has nct + tax.. just to give you an idea... I'm sure there is others priced higher but it comes down to getting someone to pay a bit more

In reality your not getting 1k-1500 from a dealer for it, they are taking some of the discount on the car your buying and putting on the trade-in value to make it more attractive. You would probably do better financially selling it privately and negotiating a straight deal discount off the new car but selling privately can be a right pain. It can take time and you will end up dealing with every "what's your last price" texter and no show clown out there. Sometimes it can be just more convenient to trade it in and be done with it versus the hassle of dealing with muppets at your door. It's really up to you.

    Is it a 320d or 330d?
Either way, I was offered no more than 2k for a 523i on trade in from anyone back in 2018 but I got 2k privately and negotiated 2k off asking price on new car for straight sale...anything on old tax system is now at an age where its worthless.

What are the values like on those cars for cash companies?

Less than the trade in value you were quoted.

Terrible, about 30% of private sale value.

Young lads go mad for those. If it’s cheap and any way clean straight it should sell fairly easily

They're common as muck though, and young lads have no money.

I'd say you'd be lucky to take 2000 for that car. Maybe a bit more if it's msport in a nice colour with nice interior.

Donedeal is flooded with them priced for 1-3k.

3 year old car 50% of new value
6 year old car 25% of new value
9 year old car 12.5% of new value
12 year old car 6.25% of new value

320d in 07 was about a 40k car give or take
6.25% for a 12 year old 08 car with cheaper tax would be about 2.5k

Now add on an extra year and go back to old tax system.... Car all of a sudden worth next to nothing. And 180k miles is going to turn a lot off it. If its not msport forget about it altogether
If you could get a bit over 1000 privately and then get another 1000 on private sale you'll be doing OK.

But a private sale on a 13 year old BMW will drive you demented... I had mine advertised for a while and it was a nightmare all the texts and messages from people looking to chat but not buy, I was lucky I had someone that bought mine from me (my mechanic)

Just had a look on done deal there I could go out and buy one of them for 1500 handy, bit of pushing I could get one for 1000.

You will sell it though, young lads do love the old cheap beemers, I was one of them

No point over analysing this. It’s an old cheap car- the main point is selling it privately will be advantageous to the op as regards getting money off a new car vs trading it in. Anything he gets for it will be a bonus really as depending on what he’s buying should get at least that off as a straight discount.

You won't get any more for that selling it private with 180k on it to be honest

And he's getting nothing for it by trading it in- there are always two prices 1. with trade in or 2. without trade in.
Trading in a car like this is forfeiting the cash you'd save by going straight. Much better to flog off privately, get what you can and go in without a trade in no one wants.
