LNB Query

Hey,

I'm clueless about this kinda thing so any help is appreciated. I have an LG TV which has a port for the dish at the back of it. I previously had Sky Q so have the dish already. I plugged the wire from the satellite into the back of the TV and was able to locate 58 channels, mainly TV shopping, Muslim prayer channels and world news.

Am I right in thinking that I need to have the LNB changed on the dish so I'm able to get the other Freesat channels?

Yes yes you need a hybrid lnb.

An alternative is buy a Freesat 4k box which is compatible with the Sky Q lnd. They are about £125 for the non recordable version.

Or just change to a standard lnb if you are not going back to sky Q, its cheaper than a hybrid

Thanks for your reply. This sounds interesting as it would be handy to be able to record too. I found a box on Amazon which is a Freesat 4K box but supports recording for £199. Will these definitely work in Ireland? Like it is just plug in, tune and play?

You would be advised to link to the device you found.
There appears to be a tendency to use 'Freesat' when 'Free to Air' is what is meant.

Yep, that'll just work if you connect it to a satellite dish. You'll need to enter a postcode when setting it up, the Freesat software will give you regional channels specific to that postcode (suggest you use either BT1 1AA if you want UTV and BBC NI or E1 1AA if you want London channels).

Note - you will not get RTÉ/Virgin/TG4, and you will not be able to use all of the online services due to being in wrong country. Also, with amazon you'll have to get the box delivered to parcel motel or similar it would seem...
