Engine under stress

    Hi guys,
Little bit of an odd one and not sure if I can explain it very well, so understand over internet diagnostics may not be 100% spot on :-D :-D. 2 Litre Diesel Focus 2016
I seem to get a higher pitched droning noise, separate from the engine noise when car is slightly accelerating at roughly the 2k rev mark.

This is also very apparent when travelling on motorway at 120kph (75mph) with cruise on...coincidentally that has the car at approx 2k revs as well. Any slight slow down the noise disappears briefly unless the slow down drops the revs away from the 2k.

Car is in for a service in 2 weeks and I know front a rear arm bushes are up for replacing, but could this be the cause? Unlikely as it seems more engine related than other.

Is it a hissing noise, if so it could be a crack in the intercooler feed pipe.

May be a crack or split in the connection hose or body there. Can make a rattle under certain conditions. Try wrapping a bit of tape around the area and see if it reduces the noise.

Id a go of that or at least where I could and it hasn't done anything. Im concerned about the residue on the pipe actually as well, but for now, the rattle is more concerning

You could try again applying a damp rag by hand and see if their is a change in the noise?

So took the car to garage for them to have a quick look, they said it was nothing to worry about and just a loose "something" (I actually cant remember what he said) that they would tighten it up during the service in 2 weeks. Im really hoping it is the cause of what sounds to be the engine under stress, odd noise, at the 2k revs.

@saabsaab, the rattle is definitely coming from the silver cylander (whatever that is) if anyone can tell me would be great.

Well for anyone who wanted an update.
€€€ later it would seem clutch/gearbox needed swapping out. I dont know how or why as the car drove perfectly except the noise
