Poor Mains Pressure

    Hello Irish Water.

I recently bought a house and have discovered that the water pressure at the mains (kitchen) tap is very poor.

I also found that the stop cock/valve on the footpath appears to be shared with the property next door. I found this out when we turned off water while doing some plumbing works and is far from ideal.

There does not appear to be a new meter installed outside our house or my neighbour's, however many other houses on the street have the new meter lids - ours still has the old metal horse shoe lid (which is shared with next door)

Can you advise what we should to in this instance.

    Thanks.

    Hi Gary,

Thank you for messaging us. It appears you are on a shared connection with your neighbour. In order to get separated, you and your neighbour will have to carry out a test with a private plumber to see which house is on the main connection, and who is being run off the main connection.

After this test, the household which is being fed from the main supply will have to apply for a new connection to separate the connections and this will then increase the pressure in both households.

For more on the new connection process, please seehttps://www.water.ie/connections/for more or you can give us a call on 1850 278 278, to speak with a New Connections Specialist.

If you need anything further, please let me know.

    Thanks,
    Rebecca.
