IPTV as alternative to wired tv

I have just moved into a flat which has no tv connections whatsoever; no saorview, even basic tv aerial connectors so I am left looking at wifi options as a legit source of tv.

Does anyone know any legit IPTV providers in Ireland? Would need Irish channels in addition to the UK.

    Kind regards,
    DT.

Eir TV and Vodafone TV are the two main ones offering both Irish and U.K. channels. Now TV is probably the most flexible in that it’s the only provider offering linear channels that’s not broadband provider dependant - but it doesn’t offer Irish or U.K. terrestrial channels, just pay TV (mainly Sky).

iBox.ie is a 100% Irish company offering online TV. We are the first TV operator in Ireland to offer a full-range of channels in high-quality, using Broadband delivery. You can use it as your main TV service on a big screen with Apple TV, Fire TV or Chromecast. Or you can use it as a portable TV on an iPad, Mac, Windows 10 PC or Android tablet. You can even use it when you are out & about, on your smart phone.

gareth_c permanently banned, as I am required to do for anyone claiming to represent a company.

You need to contact the Admins to request Verified Rep status, I cannot help you with this process further

I think he just copied and pasted text from their homepage, to save himself explaining who they are.

gareth_c has offered me an explanation in relation to Post #3.

His ban is being lifted, and being substituted with an on-thread warning for breaking copyright instead.

Any text from a third party website must be quoted or otherwise attributed. If there is no quotes, attribution, or any other context given, it will be absolutely treated as coming straight from the users keyboard, as I have no basis for doing otherwise unless you tell me by quoting, attributing etc. Users are responsible for ensuring that any third party text posted here is in compliance with the charter or rules and if not they can be warned or banned.

Lastly, the policy regarding advertising/company rep accounts is a Boards.ie one, not mine, and I have no option but to enforce it. There is no on-thread discussion of this point

glen123 - thanks for assistance and apologises to mods for the mis-understanding. I thought the quotes was selected when entering the details for the OP. My reference to the company is purely as a user and no affiliation.

is there any significant broadcast delay using iBox?

I use iBox and I'd recommend it; €3 a month for 10 channels. As for how legit it is, dunno. It's reliable though.

    iBox is surely not legit,

They seem legit, not hiding behind anything, have a full Irish address on their website etc, I presume they are paying royalties etc to the channels that they provide. Assuming their subscriber base is very small, then I presume royalties would be small also, if that's the way it works.

Now TV probably the main option for sky etc?

Just had a look, and Vodafone are offering broadband and tv ( 80 channels with 26 in HD ) for €45 per month for first 12 months. It includes all Irish and UK channels ( except ITV and Channel 5 ), but I dont think any Sky channels are in that.

I think I did a trial first for a week maybe. I'm on it the bones of a year now and no complaints.

Any chance you could PM me the providers?

Signed up for iBox the other day - basic package, just to try it.

So far...excellent! No complaints - might upgrade to a more comprehensive package in another week or so....

    What device are you using?

:o I'm casting from an old smartphone would you believe?

It just works though....I have a TP-Link plugged in beside the TV and that boosts the wifi signal - Chromecast plugged in to TV - and it works.

It's a smart tv so I can get RTE player, Amazon Prime and Netfilx easily. NowTV stick also when needed.

It's not our main TV so record and Pause not so much an issue but I might re-visit in the next year.

my brother has TV via an app smart STB, and has asked me to configure his "portal" for his second TV so he can see his registered TV channels there too. I've no idea, even though I've a software engineering degree (I know). Is this possible and if it's okay could someone hook me up with a link or guidance?

Sorry if this is not the correct place to ask.

Does the provider allow for use on a second device?

no idea tbh. Is that easy to find out on this app or my bros Account?

  • Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 12,062 Mod ✭✭✭✭icdg

The OP asked for legitimate providers, next post asking about illegitimate ones gets a straight ban. Wally1990 and shatnersbassom both take warnings. Wally1990 on the basis that his screenshot is of BT Sport and he mentions having had two providers on a Smart TV the only legitimate provider of BT Sport on Smart TVs is Now TV.

Might have been mentioned in the email he got from the provider when he took out the subscription, if not it would be best to check with the provider first.
Now tv only allow 2 devices.

Now tv allows multiple devices but only two devices simultaneously at same time.
