    Hi all,

Looking for a good spec 13" convertible laptop - touchscreen, tablet mode, metal build, IPS screen, ssd, 8gb RAM, decent battery & was thinking Ryzen 4000 series chip ideally (4300u or 4500u). Eligible for student discounts if available.

Had been looking at the Ideapad 5 thread but missed out on the freedos config, but it's still an option if the bargain becomes available again. Would consider 12" or 14" if it ticked the boxes, but 13" seems to be the ideal size.

Mostly to be used for education - teaching & studying - Teams/Zoom calls, OneNote, presentations, web browsing etc. Will be doing a lot of typing so would prefer to have a proper laptop mode instead of a Surface type device with soft/detachable style keyboard.

Was hoping to grab a bargain for €500-€600 but not seeing anything in that range.
HP Envy x360 13" seems the ideal one, but can't find it at a bargain price
It's €758 on this German website, but presume you get a different keyboard. Would drop to a 3500U chip if it brought it to within the budget. The x360 form seems to be available as Pavillion, Elitebook, Envy & Spectre - not sure if the build quality is consistent across all - is it just a matter of getting the right spec?

Haven't fully research all the Lenovo range yet - seems a bit confusing - Ideapad, Thinkpad, Yoga, Flex, Slim etc. Dell XPS options seem expensive. Matebook 13" with 4500u not available in Europe yet, wouldn't be a fan of the "nostril cam"!

What would the other options or recommendations be? Am I expecting too much for sub €600?!

    Thanks

why do you need a convertible?

touch screens on laptops are not that useful really as the laptop (surface aside) is too heavy to comfortably use as a tablet.

I have a convertible touchscreen type laptop (didn't buy for that reason tbh) but rarely use the touchscreen

Lenovo flex 5 is probably an ok one but not even for sale in Europe it seems and long lead times on Lenovo anyways

but that is more likely around 700+ when / if it comes out

Just like having the option of using it as a tablet really, have used a Surface & found myself using it without the keyboard quite a bit, usually just for web browsing & watching netflix.

then get a surface I'd say then. (2nd hand if necessary)

as said, the other ones are too heavy to be used as tablets.

certainly the ones in the price range you're looking at.

surface pro is 770g (even that is not a light tablet really)

a convertible laptop with keyboard is going to be closer to twice that.

You might have to wait until October unless you can get 4000 from germany also Intel is bringing out it's 11 cpu
They say is faster than the ryzen 4000
If you know any one coming over from america you can buy every brand from 500 Euro also gaming laptop prices should drop as Nvidia drops gpu prices

Thanks. Yes, was looking at America but shipping & duty kills the bargain unless someone brings it over, as you say.

In the US the prices quoted are before sales tax which is to be paid in the vast majority of states. So the price you see is not the final price.

Also it's often a case of that they have a deal price on for a very short period of time which is hard to get unless you live there.

Finally you'll have no warranty unless you import through an official channel.
