Boards, gives the posters anonymity ( I think). But when subjects come up and you post on line with such passion. Would you be the same in a face to face discussion with people? So when you post are you full of say bravado/bullsh¡t or are you like that in the real world?

    Exactly like this.

Id bet most people who aggressively attack other users on here are in fact quiet church mice in reality. The only reason they are so vicious here is because they are making up for their lack of assertiveness in the real world.

As for myself, Im a pretty causal poster and dont get too involved. My opinions are my honest beliefs, and things I would share with my friends if not the wider public.

I cannot communicate my views at all. Find it really difficult in person. Some things I am vocal about but in general, am a lot more placid and chilled in real life.

I'm the same here as in real life TBH.

I'd never say anything here I wouldn't say to you face to face.

I'm split into 37 distinct personalities, so you will get a very fractured portrait of my fragile self. My favorite personality is that of a psychopathic 7 yr old girl with an angel face I am the only one to know.

I’m the same person. I’d imagine life would be too much like hard work if you had to be constantly tailoring and changing your personality to the audience of people around you.

Yes we probably keep a little more of ourselves back in our work environments but that’s not much of a change in personality more self preservation in some instances.... boards is just Strumms... ME

I try to be true to my real self, but the major difference is than on here, I have time to think about and post a reply. I can Google something I'm not sure on to include it in my reply. Whereas in real life, I'm not so good with words and have a habit of saying the wrong thing at the wrong time to the wrong people. It's never intentional, i'm just not a great public speaker I suppose. I'm also a lot more active on here than in real life, where I live a quite happy hermit-like existence.

I am constantly evolving. Always learning.

Am I different in real life? Em ...........yeah. I am even better! :P

    Yes.

I'm done pandering to people I don't like and don't owe anything to.

If people dont like me as I am then f*ck them.

Yes, I try as best I can to be true to myself in what I post.

I’m very much the same in real life, in person, as I am on boards. I would be outgoing, very sociable, generally an optimist and - as a lecturer - I can talk for Ireland. ;):D

Those boardsies who have had the pleasure (or misfortune!) of meeting me in person will attest to that.

I dunno really. Can't compare the two environments/contexts.

Knowing your audience can be applicable. Modification of your behaviour is something we do without thinking. E.g. cinema and library versus pub.

I'm certainly not cultivating a fake persona or telling lies or behaving towards people here in a way that I wouldn't dare face to face, but it's anonymous so I am certainly sharing views which would be deemed controversial (they shouldn't be but they are) and which I would not put my name to on the internet.

But yeah my views are my views. They've changed over time for sure, but I don't say things I don't mean.

    This describes me too.

Context is everything - I have some unpc opinions that I can't say in a work situation, or around sensitive people that are on the periphery of my social life, but I can express them here.

My sense of humour is toned down in work too when my professional face is on.

    "are you true to yourself?"

interesting proposition on an internet forum

I'm pretty much true to myself on here, as much as I am when I'm in work. Say what you mean.

But just add a few jokes and try to calm things down.

I've ADHD and in real life can be one of those annoying people who loses the run of themselves and doesn't listen but just talks so I have to keep a tight control and sometimes I then can't express myself properly.

I can express myself in writing without the random babble and tangents, but I think I lose a bit of my expressiveness.

I am however as able to express an opinion either way, and try always to do so respectfully but not indulgently.

The real world is full of bravado and bullsh't, so you can quantify that which ever way you like :)

What you read is pretty much what you get from me, I do ramble a little occasionally, and I tend to be a little more careful on-line because you don't have the nuance and context of face-to-face from which further to refine meaning and intent.

Hello Nicole. Ok your probably not Nicole but I used to know a Nicole and she was as made as they come crazy and lots of fun too. Us girls had good fun together.
Am I true to .myself on here. Well that's complicated.sometimes yes like now and other times maybe not. I would not nor ever have been that great at socialising so and find anytime I used to there was either a noisy band or music on so even if you were to talk no one can here you anyway so what's the point. Just wasted energy where as at least on here it's not wasted energy and you can get your views out there. I also never liked pubs or Cisco's the smell of drink and when I was younger cigarettes in the place was just disgusting. Now it's just drink but it's still horrible so I never go to a pub or out unless I can't avoid it or have no choice in the matter. I do not mind it so much if it's a family outing but otherwise generally hate going to them places as there is so much more I could and do prefer to be doing inside of stuck in a pub listening to someone singing badly or talking crap.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

Yes I post authentically from time to time on Boards. It is possible to uncover who I am if the admins looked at their logs, but I don't give a shit if I am 'revealed' because it's not in my threat model. Darknet drug markets might be a little different though and people still make mistakes using Tor by having the geo-location/coords in the metadata/EXIF of the photo of cannabis they took.

Yes and sometimes it feels like life would be easier if I wasn't. I'm not everybody's cup of tea and that can be a bit lonely. Maybe I should stay quiet more, or keep a tighter lid on myself at times. Of course I know that's not the way and pretending just to get a long is in fact the lonely road. That's because you end up doing yourself a huge disservice. It's one thing to be resentful of others but quite different to resent yourself.

So even though I wonder sometimes if I'd be accepted more, if I'd be more liked, well it's ok that I'm not. There are people in my life who I love and who I feel so lucky to know and be loved by them. They are who matter.
I'm me and and am happy with that :).

I'm a bit more common sense online than I am in real-life I'd say. Mainly because we have the luxury of time in composing our thoughts and constructing our posts around here.

Writing things out is how I tend to figure stuff out in general, and a lot of my posting is about my own figuring out and clarifying of positions around certain subjects. I'll write it down, read it back and be like, "yeah. Yeah that's how I feel about that."

In real-life there's a little more diplomacy, joking around, building rapport, staying silent and not speaking my mind sometimes, hyperbole, a touch of people pleasing etc.
