    What would be the issue?

The number of owners for a start. The UK owners would be listed grand. Would the dealer become an extra owner in order to buy, import and register?

The car would also be listed as an import on history checks.

Would they not be trivial issues?

Couldn't be sure what type of dealer or auction car was purchased from in the UK.

No additional owner will show, dealer here will only register car when sold at which time car will be VRT'd and given Irish plate corresponding to county of home address of buyer.

A lot of Toyota/Lexus main dealer imports seem to be sourced via their UK dealers.

You'll find that a LOT of their stock is sourced from the UK.

UK imports are massive business for main dealers. Imports haven’t been at record levels the past few years due to individual lads getting a ferry over to the UK to buy a cheap BMW. It’s down to both franchise and used dealers bringing back truckloads of stock everyday.

The Government have passed legislation that UK cars can be sold in Ireland provided the cars quarantine for 14 days and fill up with more than 9 euro of fuel.

I've no problem with them doing that except for they buy them at UK prices, sell at Irish prices and value your trade in under UK prices.

More stock and higher specs available in the UK than here and the obvious price advantage gives them more profit. Most are being sourced through the UK main dealer network too rather than from back street dealers or auction houses.

But the whole point of any business is to make profits? Theres only so many cars in Ireland and there certainly isn’t enough to go around. None of us are forced to buy from them or to trade our cars in with them. We have the option of selling our cars and buying direct from the UK ourselves if we want. Others would rather pay for the convenience of not having to deal with selling their car or going abroad and would rather a warranty and the other benefits that come with buying local
