For example, is there a database or search engine where crimes can be seen or searched, for example, 2012-2014 in Galway City or 2006-2008 in Tralee.

I want to do some research to see if recessions had an impact on crime and if more rural communities were more or less affected.

I'm sure on the existence of such detaied information is accessible to the public here, but reading your post reminded me of this podcast, which details how the same type of information was used in New York to reduce crime.

The Garda and the CSO publish a certain amount of data. I don't know if the level of detail will suit you. You should be able to do a certain level of analysis of the CSO data. Note that certain crime is extremely under-reported.
