Hey folks have the factory fitted Hankooks 215/60/16 95V wearing down at the front and some cracking on the rear tyres, will just replace all 4 at this stage.
Garage has proposed 99V tyres, what is the benefit or loss of using 99 over 95?
Is there a harsher ride , is there better handling? Or no perceptible difference?

Other than that am hoping to get quiet efficient tyres more than a performance tyre.

It is speed rating. You won't notice a difference at all.

Sure you will notice a difference depending on the tires fitted, but the speed rating won't affect you at all.

Thanks wonski, but am even more conflustered now, I thought the H or V etc was the speed rating, and the 95 / 99 was a load rating?
Which is why I though stiffer sidewalls ....

Yep letter is the speed rating and number is the max load

Don’t think you will notice any difference tbh. It will more about the brand of tyre etc

    What tyres did garage recommend?

The 99V are also an XL(extra load) tyre which effectively gives more support laterally to the tyre. In other words, hard/high speed cornering will result in less tyre flex.

With load/speed ratings you can always go higher than the rated factory spec but never lower.

Lastly, I'd say its what they had in stock.

You and the guys above are correct, the point stands that as long as you stay at or above oem you are fine.

I’d agree based on my limited experience of my Octavia.
It came with Continentals which were nice and quiet but wore very quickly. Replaced one pair with GoodYear efficientgrip which are excellent.
Put Bridgestone Turanzas on next which wear a lot better than the Continentals but are a small bit noisier.
The Good Years are probably the best all rounder out of those. They’re supposed to wear well too. Blackcircles do good deals on them fitted.

I use Michelin Cross climates on my superb on country roads having also used them in the city on an octavia
    Never an issue with them

Yeah these are Efficient grip recommended by the garage, I'll go with those.
I am very fond of watching that 0.0 l/100 k/m when off throttle so any reduction in rolling resistance brings me great joy :-)
Also allegedly quieter than my Hankooks too.
