    Hi
Nearing retirement!! Always promised myself that I would get a car with a few “ extras “ as a gift to myself !
    Always liked the Golf.
I’m following a northern dealer with great reviews on Facebook. His cars seem to have a lot of extras and reasonable mileage ..
I was “ caught” twice over the years with cars and am nervous ... one was as new , but had been crashed , another , mileage was altered. Lot of hassle / buyer beware , is the lesson I learnt !

Anyway , in the market soon for :

    GTD , automatic , extras , reasonable mileage ..
    Price bracket , 17 k ...

Just appreciate , any tips / guidance . What to watch for.
    Thks

    Paddy

Doing a history check would be my first piece of advice

Always do your own history check, I'd take Facebook reviews with a pinch of salt as they can be manipulated. For service history you may not get paper based history as a lot now is computerised, in that case contact the dealers who carried out the work to verify it actually happened.

Older diesel cars are subject to large NOX emissions levies, you will find the NOX amount on the V5 document, factor this in to the charges to import the car. Generally anything after September 2015 won't be as much as it will comply with Euro 6 emission regulations.

You can add the amount in to the VRT calculator to give the total chargeable...

Nox actually isn’t too bad on a GTD. Early 2014 models have Nox of 0.064 which is only €360. It went down to 0.54 for the 7.5 facelift in 2017. I think DSG adds about €30 or so in nox
