Nest to Hive

Switching from the Nest to the Hive at present. Don't ask why!

See attached the wiring diagrams for both my Nest and my hive. My question is how do I transfer over those wires to the Hive based of the diagrams.

    Currently my Nest has:
    Neutral
    Live
    1 is empty
2 (this is wired into Live)
    3 Wired for Heating On
    4 is empty
5 (this is wired into 2 which is wired to Live)
6 is Wired for Hot Water On

    There are no other wires.

    My Hive needs
Neutral (can take the wire already in the Nest)
Live (can take the wire already in the Nest)
1 (unsure what to do here)
2 (unsure what to do here)
3 Do I take the wire from 6 on the Nest?
4 Do I take the wire from 3 on the Nest?

Sorry for asking but thinking of going down the nest route. Is there a reason you'd pick Hive over Nest?

Hive has a boost function for heating and amazingly Nest does not!

How many zones does your system have at the moment? separate heating and hot water?
Which Hive receiver are you putting in single/dual?
    Which boiler is it controlling?
What wires are currently going to your nest?

    1 zone
    Separate heating and water yes
    Dual receiver
    Oil burner in the garage
    Wires as per OP

yeah my wife won a 3rd Gen nest in work . So i went to the hassle of wiring and fitting it . Fully agree with regards to the boost function, its so odd that the hot water can have a boost function but the heating cannot . it is surely a basic programming change for them.

Can't you just say "hey Google" to your phone or smart speaker & ask it to turn on the heating for an hour?

It doesn't need a boost function, you're still thinking in terms of old on/off heating controls. it works to temperature, if the house is cold and you feel it needs a boost then you just turn up the temperature.

    My Hive needs
Neutral (can take the wire already in the Nest)
Live (can take the wire already in the Nest)
1 (unsure what to do here) LEAVE EMPTY
2 (unsure what to do here) LEAVE EMPTY
3 Do I take the wire from 6 on the Nest? YES
4 Do I take the wire from 3 on the Nest?YES

You can ignore all the common links (to make switching 240v) as this is done internally on the Hive dual receiver

I like to boost function too, for lots of reasons.
I agree to the others that say the approach should be time/temp, but most people I find prefer the concept of boosting at certain times.

That on/off temperature is purely at the whim of where the nest was installed which may or may not be reflective of the needs of the other spaces. The space a single nest thermostat is in , is not reflective of the temperatures in the entire house.

With the Nest you can't turn the heat on for an hour. Doesn't work at all. Even when asking Google Assistant it doesn't work. So many times I've turned up the heat and forgot to turn it back down and have wasted oil! Hive is in now as per DGOBS advice and all is well.

If my wife hadnt won the nest for free in a competition i probably would of went with the hive. Sure i will get a few years out of it and will change again.

I made sure i wired it all through a danfoss sundial wiring centre so it will be very obvious how to hook up any new controller.

Any recommendations for a new customer looking at Nest/ Hive Climote for an apartment w/ Gas boiler?

I see Bord Gais give a free Hive on a 2-year contract (higher rates so not. 'free', but at least deffered)

    Curious to see peoples expeirence

? During the winter we set the heat to be on for hour in the morning and schedule during the day... you set a target temp and nest figures out how long it takes to get up to that target temp... if its less than an hour it switches off.... if you want to ensure you want an hour non stop just set the target temp higher... i do wish nest had released the additional temp sensor support they did in the US for Ireland.. you can get additional sensors which will call for heat at a certain temp.. would make a lot more sense that depending on the placement of the nest controller being indicative of your houses overall temp
