What road-ish tyres on a cx bike?

I picked up that Boardman cross bike last week from a fellow boards-man. Tyres are well shot and my cupboards shelves are creaking with GP4000 25's.

The bike isn't going to see any cross racing and to be honest, not a whole lot of or possibly any off-road, but it's the first bike I've had that can take wider than 25mm tyres, so what's a good do-it-all tyre with decent normal commuting/pottering manners and a bit of gravel messing maybe? Would you go the new breed of wide 30 ish road tyres, or is there a knobbly that works ok on tarmac too?

Panaracer gravel kings come in a flat thread version but have decent puncture protection which will allow you to tackle some gravel if needed. Have them on my winter bike for past few years with no complaints.

Thanks. Do you ride them tubeless? I had intended sticking with what I know, which is tubed.

A pair of Marathon Plus blue guards would be grand for all eventualities. Good in the wet, grand in the dry, and a bit of thread for light gravel messing. Also perfect as a daily driver in urban areas because they are near bomb proof.

I've found the above tyre easy to set up on dt Swiss 460 rims.

Lovely tyre on gravel or road.

If you have a bike capable of off road, use it or at least give it a go. It'll open up new ground even in areas you know very well

I've had more (off the bike*) punctures with my Gravel Kings tubeless, than I did when I was running them tubed on the previous bike!

*as in, had to plug and ultimately patch. Obviously lots of sealant dots running tubeless.
