Will coding on a popcorn limiter/hardcut limiter onto your car make you fail the NCT?

Not at all they love the noise. You get bonus points if it's firing out black smoke too.

    *Real Answer: yes it will*

See that'd sound alright on something decent, it sounds like launch control/two step, possibly slightly anti lag ish
On a diesel golf though, no.

I gather the more black smoke the better too. Why you'd want to destroy the back of your car (as in that vid above) and have it look like you have a serious fault is beyond me.

they think making their Micra sound like it has a hole in the exhaust is good as well

I've seen that on a load of cars down where the GF lives.
Rest of the car is spotless and the back is just soot, agri spec I think?
The fact that's even a thing....

It'd very much depend on how the limiter is mapped wouldn't it. Just having one wouldn't in of itself be a fail. A launch control one at lower revs around 2500rpm won't pass though.

If the limiter is mapped in as part of a "reek" map then it's almost definitely going to cause the car to fail the smoke test if the map is quite clean you might be alright but it'll be touch and go because any popcorn limiter I've ever seen throws out a bit of smoke.

The idea of a popcorn limiter is to give a diesel car a more petrol like limiter where hitting it just before a gear change will result in less of a loss power/forward momentum than the way diesels normally would nose over when rev'd above their powerband. However most just get one because they like the sound.

It's more relevant to modified diesels where power is being made right up to redline.

I genuinely thought you were joking so I googled it myself. Nope, you're not joking.
