Can anyone let me know if the following providers have analogue or VOIP as their standard phone service that is bundled with their home broadband?

    Vodafone
    Eir
    Sky
    Pure telecom

I will get the ball rolling

    Pure telecom = analogue!

Vodafone, Eir are VOIP as standard but do still have the option for analogue voice. I spoke with Digiweb last week who said VOIP was standard with them too.

Ah ok do you just plug an analogue phone into the wall with all of them or do you have to get onto thm to set it up? Thanks for mentioning digiweb, i had forgotten about them.

Vodafone and Eir you need to request it at time of ordering otherwise it'll be connected on VOIP so you'd be plugging the phone into the back of the modem. Digiweb also quoted plans with analogue phone but the plan allowances were inferior to the VOIP based plans.

Fair enough it makes sense the voip plans are cheaper. I just wont fancy buyinh voip handsets. Its hard to get free daytime calls. I was a bit spoilt with pure telecom.

You don't need VOIP handsets - a regular DECT cordless phone will work - you just plug it into the phone port in the router

Only one thing to consider with VOIP is that in a power cut to your house you will have no landline phone whereas you will have on the analogue system.

I guess it's minor these days.
