    hi

Am looking to put in hive thermostats for 3 zones. House is zone but my controller is only an on and off timer. I have opened up and looked behind seems like a good few electrical cables behind.

Is it possible to use a multi zones controller or the hive system. See photo attached.

    Thanks

Yes it is possible to use Hive, but it will really depend on how things were wired.

The hive thermostat is battery powered and wireless, so you can fit it where you think it is best by hanging it on the wall. If you have existing wall stats, these will need to be bi passed.

The hive wireless receiver will then replace your existing clock. It doesn't look like there is enough wires for 3 zones at the back of your existing clock, although they could be buried in the back with a block connector joining them.

I can't answer about the 3 zone configuration, but i have hive working with 2 zones and it works really well. In the event that the internet or the wireless thermostat goes down, you can press the button on the wireless receiver and it will override the system allow you to have heat etc...

I have installed a Hive system with 3 zones, 2 heating and one hot water. So yes, it can be done.

One multizone controller does two zones (upstairs heating and hot water), and a second single channel controller does the downstairs heating.

The controllers switch the heating zone valves directly. The HW channel switches the HW zone valve via a cylinder thermostat as Hive don't offer a wireless cylinder stat. Once any zone valve is opened the boiler is enabled via the aux contacts in each valve.

The two room thermostats are wireless and battery operated. If you want remote access to the heating via your mobile phone you will also need a Hive hub.
