Bit of advice needed.

Renault Megane 2010 1.5dci

Had the timing belt and water pump replaced 4months ago, since then it just hasn't sounded right, took it back and the guy said it was an issue with the injectors, which they don't do, and gave me another garages number.

2 days ago car failed me, wouldn't start, it tried to but just wouldn't kick in, engine warming light came on saying fuel Injection failure.

The garage was closed to dropped it into another one, the guy there said the timing belt wasn't put on properly (not lined up??), warning message on his tablet was saying 'Coherence between camshaft sensor, engine speed number of teeth incorrect'

Now my garage has it (the ones that did timing belt), they're saying it needs a new pulley and they're replacing the belt, total cost to me now is 280, he said it should be north of 500 for all this but he's doing it at cost.

Would putting timing belt on wrong affect pulley??

I'm not that mechanically minded when it comes to engines
