Hi, ive a garmin nuvi 2557 lmt and tring to find a free map for ireland to add sd card on it, i have a garmin 670 that works with the ireland map but the garmin 2557 will not recognise it.

There should be a way to get OpenStreetMap data on to it. Have a Google and you should find instructions

I,ve got the osm map, unzipped and renamed the file to gmapsupp.img, but the unit still not recognising it.

Have you tried Waze? Maps are way more accurate, because many users submit feedback and some users edit the map. Changes generally get pushed to the app within a couple of days!

I'm not sure you understand what osm is

These are the instructions for the OSM maps Always pay attention to safety using this map. The use of this map is at your own risk. Destinations and routing may contain errors.
You can help improve the map through www.openstreetmap.org

Installation:
Unzip your download, copy the gmapsupp.img file to the Garmin folder on a 8 Gb SD-card and change the map in your PND.
It's not recognised by the unit.

The SD card needs to be FAT32, *not* exfat for most nuvi devices. Most new ones from shops are exfat albeit you can reformat them.

Yes,SD card is formatted for FAT32.
