'Im noticing more and more of the instructors doing this and it is bordering on BS. If the learner is interested in obeying the law, they need to bring someone with them to the lesson.

Why are instructors not just coming to the house so that the instructor is the accompanying driver at all times for the lesson? Has a regulation come in for this or are they just being cheap not driving out to the persons house

Following this with interest. My driving *lessons* (not test) have just resumed post-lockdown and I've been told I now have to meet the instructor in a nearby town as he will no longer pick me up or drop me off at my house.

This was passed off as COVID regulation but it doesn't make any sense whatsoever in that context. It's actually a bloody pain as I am using my own car and as I want to obey the law, my sponsor will accompany me to my lesson, but will then have to hang around the town for two hours while I swan around doing the lesson. Big waste of their time.

Thats ridiculous, you cant be expected to meet your driving instructor in a different town or in the OP's case, at a test center thats not within walkable distance from your home. If this is there own set of rules due to covid, it makes no sense at all.
Keep ringing different instructors until you find one that can collect you.

Plenty of good instructors out there. Change instructor.

    Hi,

I would assume that prior to the Covid outbreak they were not too busy and were glad of the business even if it meant some dead/unpaid time collecting/dropping off their pupils.

Now with the backlog they can fill their daily diary with no unpaid gaps.

Least they could do, continue the same procedure with their old pupils, but all new ones to use central collection point.

OP here. In this case it was being done a year before covid . I don't think covid is a factor

Learner driver in our house. Now that Churchtown Test Centre has closed the test will be done in Tallaght so the lessons are taking place around the Tallaght test routes. She has driven (with me) to Tallaght for the last 3 lessons. Depending on traffic this can take up to 25 minutes. The first lesson (after restrictions lifted) the instructor called to the house and drove with her to Tallaght. It took almost 2 hours between the lesson and collecting/driving back. I can see why the instructor has changed the routine.
