I thought this was a different kind of bargain alert. As many outlets are selling tonnes of disposable face masks which get dumped, I was wondering why cant we reuse so called disposable masks allowing that the virus lives on surfaces at most 72 hours.

If you have enough masks to keep a turnaround of 4/5 days this means the mask from day 1 can't have any potential virus by day 5 if set aside, and thus can be reused. Have a read below and decide for yourself. A bit of care is all that's needed.

I understand there are washable ones out there but I see a lot of these thrown on the streets and lot of people generally using disposable masks, so this is aimed at them. If you have 5 and take a little care you shouldn't need any more or buy anything else. This is based on the science we are being given..

I spray my disposal masks with anti bac spray and hang them outside for 72 hours
I get a few wears out of them before the go tatty .

Why do people spend so much on steel cutlery when they can just reuse single-use plastic cutlery? :pac:

It's the same reason we don't wear disposable clothes. You can also buy single-use socks, garments etc. But they are not as durable, are more flimsy, less appealing to the eye etc.

Suggesting that we should reuse single use items instead of spending e.g. €5 on their reusable counterparts is not a bargain alert.

That's not cheap. You can get a 50 pack of 3-Ply on Ebay for a quarter of the price.

Anti bacteria spray has no effect on a virus.

I put my standard disposable face masks into boiling water ( no scrubbing) and dried them on the radiator. and reused them. It made thir insides go all fluffy and the tickling drove me crazy & made me sneeze! I’ve just maNned up and bought a reusble mask and the difference is huge!! For the extra e4 thats in it, maybe its not worth trying to reuse them but buy one semi decent one (e5-chemist) and stick with that!

The 72 hours outside probably does though.

I dont this see as a bargain alert. Not all masks are made equal. While some may be washable, quality on others could likely be lessened if washed making the mask useless.

I got these delivered via Parcel Motel and they seem grand, although I plan on switching to reusable ones once they run out. I'm sure you can find similar ones without the need for PM too. :)

Edit: And here is a 100 pack from the same seller.

delivery is going to take how long? - not much use if it's going to take 2 months to come from China and you need them now....

Linked in the above post, I got mine in less than a week as they're stocked in the UK. :)

72 hours inside would be exactly the same.

Because it's not only about Covid.

A used mask is full of snotty bacteria.

Your respiratory system has evolved to deal with this in a certain way. Masks totally change that.

A mask becomes damp and ineffective after about 2 hours ( less if you sweat a lot). You'll need a good deal more than five to get you through a few days.

Cheers, I've reusables and do not want to go down the route of disposables but i suppose no harm to have some just in case.

Delivery is free to the PM depot in Northern Ireland and then €3.95 from there to a PM locker. :)

I hate to break it to you guys but all of these masks are totally useless against a small virus such as Covid19, N95 mask is the only mask that offers true prtoection and even then it is best to wear one of these surgical masks over the N95 and face mask for safety, e.g. working in a Covid ward with full PPE requirement.

Masks are purely placebo and to satisfy a set of archaic totalitarian rules.

Thanks but I'll trust the opinion of WHO over a random internet stranger.

The WHO is a corrupt organisation rightly called out by the Americans. I trust the CDC far more.

Unless it is an N95 then you are heavily at risk, it is a placebo basically.

Not gonna bite on your trolling too much, but the CDC also recommends surgical/fabric masks.
