Water hammer going on for 2 years

I've had water hammer in a downstairs toilet for 2 years now, it comes and goes but in the last week it's gotten really bad to the point where I'm afraid a pipe is going to break in the wall. I can hear pipes shuddering and banging all through the house. I did have a local plumber out to look at when it wasn't as bad last yea. He didn't do anything really, he adjusted the refill tube(I already did this myself multiple times) and gave me some vague advice about keeping an eye on it, charged me €20 for this. I got the impression he didn't want anything to do with it as I understand water hammer can be a pain to fix. I have a video here, that is after flushing the toilet. It seems like the problem is to do with the inlet valve opening and closing rapidly. Maybe there is air in the system or the valve needs replacing? Anyway does anyone have a recommendation for plumber in South Dublin that could help me with this. I might just call a big plumbing company like Dewar but if I could find someone who specialises in this and won't mess me around that would be better

Changing the filler will fix it 98% of the time

    Agree with GSXR above .

I usually fit a fluidmaster fill valve in these replacement situations . They have a guide on their website of problems and the type of valve best suited to fix it.

Is replacing the filler something I could/should do myself? How do I stop the water in the attic tank from filling the toilet? I guess there is a shut off somewhere but I'm not sure where

If your asking these questions, then unfortunately the answer is you should probably get someone to do it . If you mess up alot of water could be spilled causing damage.

Did you manage to sort the issue? I just moved into a house and it seems that it has a water hammer issue or maybe not... when I flush the toilets I can hear the tank refilling or when I use any taps. I'm not sleeping because of this.

Yes it seems fixed now. It was happening with every flush for 5/6 weeks but then of course stopped the day before the plumber visited. Any way I showed him a video of it happening and he replaced the filler in the toilet. If it does start happening again then at least we've tried something and can rule it out. Your issue sounds different to mine though, I never had trouble with attic tank noises
