    Hi All

So I have an issue since the weekend - I have misplaced the keyfob in my house somewhere and cannot find it. Of course when I bought the car I only got one key.

I had been meaning to get a backup  ive seen some questions on replacements for faulty key fobs but my question is where do I stand with NO key fob. car is parked at my home

Any help or guidance on where I should start here would be appreciated

    Cheers

You won't be going anywhere I'd imagine, at least not in your Passat.

If you buy a replacement key from a dealer it will be big £££

Loads of locksmith and specialist places can create a new key, and make it work with car. Is it just a fob or physical key or have you list one and gave the other? Ring one of the many local specialists. If car is locked they might need to come to you or you might need to tow car to them.

They might need to get in first, then reprogram car to accept new fob.

Thanks for the updates - so I was patient as I was working from home and didn't need the car. Ended up finding the key in my sons toy....

so the ask changes now I think - Now I dont need anyone to come out and do any extensive work on trying to code a new key fob to the car ECU. Now its just a copy of the existing key fob I would need right?

So hopefully that will be a cheaper ask than going about getting a new key coded to car etc

Check if your insurance policy includes replacing lost/stolen keys. Some do.

Passat key and fob are the one thing. Getting a new key might be just as expensive from a lock smith as a main dealer if there is no spare key to clone. Price both.

New key will still need to be coded to car etc.

Check your insurance policy too, mine has an option to cover replacement keys.

Correct. You can program it using vcds to unlock/lock the car, but you'll need a specialist to set up up with the immobilizer of the car. Pretty sure I got my spare key for my old Passat b6 from autokey on the naas road. €200 4 years ago.

Give them a bell and see what they quote.

Bit late to the party here but I got a spare key from Key Doctor just yesterday (called out as my main key wasn't opening the car and I had a blank plastic key). It was 250, it's a good bit more through VW. It took 30 mins.

Insurance (if applicable) will only cover you if you have lost all your keys. You have one key, so no recourse to insurance.
