Are a family of four adults with an indoor cat, outdoor rabbit and a large dog, currently living in a mobile home which we own in someone's garden. The property is now up for sale so we are looking for some to put the mobile on. willing to rent a small cottage with suitable land to place the mobile on as well. We don't currently pay rent but can get a landlords reference plus character references, don't want to go through HAP and the council are unable to help either with land or with suitable housing as my mum is disabled and stairs are out. Happy to rent a small (2 bed) cottage or house if the mobile can be placed in the garden (Mum is a painter and would like to return to using it as an artists studio and I am studying advanced beauty technology and used to use the other end for study, course involves using strong smelling chemicals and dad is asthmatic) but equally happy to rent land for the mobile and just buy a caravan/shed to put on site to use as a studio/study room. Any advice or assistance gratefully received and much appreciated. Can afford a reasonable rent as mum is on disability and I am on carers allowance. Neither HAP nor rent allowance will cover land to rent or a mobile for living in as have enquired. Thanks.

Mobile homes to be used as living space and hooked up to services (water and electricity) require planning permission in Ireland, and you are very unlikely to receive said permission on a permanent basis. If you owned the land and were building a new dwelling or restoring or renovating an existing dwelling on it, you might be able to secure temporary permission to place a caravan or similar temporary dwelling on site for a limited time to live in until the building works were complete, but you're not going to get permission to plunk one down permanently in your back garden or a field by your house. (And if you're only renting, most landlords would likely have you out of there straight away for violating your tenancy agreement by putting one up, as they're the ones who would suffer the wrath of the council once they got wind of your illegal mobile home...)

We started out renting the mobile home but the landlady later gave it to us as she had no use for it anymore(itsbeen there for 20 odd years and had all the paperwork sorted at the time). Council knows but still can't help as they don't deal with land. Thank you Dennyk
