Tablet Recommendations: Photo Editing & College Work

    Hi All,

Looking for Android tablet recommendations for heavy photo editing (Photoshop & Lightroom) on the road and also college work, typing up assignments and reading academic papers. Some definite requirements I have are below:

    - Big screen of at least 10 inches.
    - Compatible with a keyboard. Wireless or integrated into a case is sufficient.
    - Includes a stylus for photo editing.
    - USB C charging and ability to insert an external SD card reader through the port.
    - Extremely fast user experience. Absolutely hate lag of any sort.

Budget would be around 500 or 600 euro. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 6 looks to tick all of my boxes but is a little over budget especially when I throw in the keyboard case. I'd love an MS Surface but I don't think there's any of them remotely within my price range. Thanks in advance.

Just bought Huawei Matepad pro for £499 off Huawei.com/uk and came with free keyboard and cover combo and a stylus. No Google GSM on it though.
    Happy with it.

Sounds like a good deal! I'm not fully up to speed with the Huawei-Google situation at all. Is there any Google support on them at all? I primarily use Google Drive for backing up on the go and would then also need access to the Play Store for various other apps.

Nope - you can access via your internet browser. Apps can be got from Huawei store and other places.
Pain in the arse that way.

I haven't got much experience of Photoshop or Lightroom on a tablet, but would you not be better off getting a laptop for heavy photo editing?

I agree with the Samsung Galaxy Tab s6, I got my wife a refurbished one last week, 256gb, 8gb RAM from Amazon for about GBP540 (can't remember exactly).

That is 100% what I would get if I needed one. The S7 is 6gb RAM and LCD screen and the S7+ is Oled but also 6gb RAM. Both have 120hz refresh screen what is nice.

I have an s3 which is still going strong (same as you, photo editing and browsing, entertainment, e-mails).

You get what you pay for and Samsung are one of the best. Maybe have a look at the Lenovo tablets too - they are very good quality and you have Android or Windows options

The Lenovo android tablets use low-end cpus compared to the top-end snapdragons in the Samsungs.

Ah damn, that definitely wouldn't work for me so. Definitely need access to the Google Store.

I had a gaming laptop previously but that was much too big to be portable. I'm trying to keep everything light and portable. I've used Lightroom on my phone before and it was a decent experience. I'd definitely like to have a touchscreen so a 2 in 1 laptop would make sense but the cheaper ones available don't seem great at all. Speed is hugely important for me and I wouldn't fancy having to wait on a laggy laptop.

Didn't even know the S7 was available. I hope that might drive down prices of the S6. That would certainly last me a few years.

I've done a bit more research this evening and decided to go for a Samsung Galaxy Tab S4. 2 years old but still very high spec and ticks all my boxes.

Very good refurbished deals on Amazon! And the 256gb version has 8gb (vs 6gb in either S7/S7+)

new or 2nd-hand? getting it with the keyboard?

it has Dex which is good but the snapdragon 835 is getting on a bit. (2017 chip)

eglobal has the S7 for 580 euro and the s6 from 500 euro. both new

    https://www.eglobalcentral.eu/mobiles-tablets/tablets.html?dir=desc&limit=36&order=price&p=2

the S7 scores 3 X the cpu power of the S4 as a comparison

Amazon Warehouse in Excellent condition. I won't touch eGlobal after having a few very bad experiences with them in the past. I definitely want to get a keyboard and S-pen so I think the S6 and S7 are out of my price range.
