Hi. I'm considering applying for the working family payment, but my partner is currently unemployed. If I apply will his social welfare be affected? I don't want to end up reducing the amount of money coming into the house as we're already struggling.

    Thanks for reading.

If your partner is living with you, you will be awarded 60% of the difference between your household income and the income limit for a family of your size.

For example, the limit for a family with two dependent children is €632. If you and your partner together earn more than that amount, you will not be awarded the payment. If you and your partner together earn, say €400, you would be awarded 60% of the difference between €400 and €632 - which would be €139.20.
It's impossible to reduce the income coming into the household as you are only awarded an amount based on what is already coming in.
