    Hi guys,

I’ve a 2011 Audi A6 with the NCT up in November ‘20. This had the 4 month extension added on to take it to March 2021. But what I’m wondering is if I wait until then, won’t they just issue me a 1 year certificate as opposed to sticking in in this year and getting 2? Thanks

Because then they'd be certifying it as roadworthy.

An NCT is not a certificate of roadworthiness

My take on it now is you would need to do it before the original November date so the car would be less than 10 years old and then as it's being done over 90 days before new due date it would be 2 years from the day the test was done. If you do it after November the car will be 10 years old and only qualify for 1 years NCT.

That’s what I was afraid of

Nothing stopping you booking it in. Keep looking for dates, they do free up.

What's to be afraid of? Your car was due in November so you would of had to test it before the date. The pushing out doesn't stop you getting it tested before it turns 10 which is when you would have originally have had to test it and getting the 2 year cert.

If you read the large NCT thread you will see I tested a 2010 slightly over 10 years old, and more than 90 days before the new NCT expiry and got 2 years disc

So it may be possible even if car is mire than 10 years since first registration. However it would be safest to do it before cars 10th birthday. Note many NCT centres have months of backlogs so book early or ring for cancellations. I would do NCT in October and allow a couple of weeks in case you fail for something silly.
