Laptop advice for analytics

    Hi all

Doing some research on upgrades to my laptop for data analytics. I’m looking to get something that’s upgradable in terms of ram and storage over time, and ideally that will last a good length of time. It will also be used for other things including college work, video calls, Photo editing and stacking, some games (but nothing top end). Current laptop is an 8gb older i5. Budget is still to be nailed down but let’s say <1k for now with the < being relevant :)

Couple of things I’d appreciate people’s thoughts on:
in terms of processor would “u” cpus (eg r5 4600u or i5 xxxxu) be ok or would “h” series be a better bet for this

Would something like ryzen 3rd gen/ Intel 8 or 9 gen be worth considering or should I be looking at 4000 series/ 10 or 11 gen - cpu benchmarks here are a bit confusing tbh

I’ve been looking at the spec on something like the following. Is it overkill or are there better options in this space (eg Would something like the matebook posted elsewhere on the forum be perfectly fine and much cheaper/ better value)

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/HP-Pavilion-15-ec1001na-Gaming-Laptop/dp/B0877L4KMD

Also does anyone know the difference between the above and this one, which is very similar

Thanks in advance for your inputs!

Komplett one has a bigger ssd

yes that will do the job, albeit once you don't need a portable machine as it's heavy

there is a 2.5 inch slot free inside to add a HDD or SSD - must be 7mm height though - not the 9.5mm which is common.

    so check the specs

you could probably do with upping ram to 16gb yourself later if doing a lot of heavy data work but that can be done when you want

    Thanks Glasso

Don’t know how I missed the ssd. The Komplett machine actually looks decent value on that basis. Don’t know what they’re like to buy from though

Happy enough to upgrade ram myself. It seems cheaper at the mo than buying a machine with more installed for some reason- I’ve built a fair few desktops so happy opening machines up, just not as familiar with laptop nuances. Oddly Komplett lost the max ram as 16gb but elsewhere its listed as 32gb
