V5C question - UK import

    If buying privately from a UK based person (who i know and trust) , when i collect the car do i tske the V5C in their name or gèt them to transfer the V5C to me? This transfer, i understand takes weeks

    You get the WHOLE thing off them. Do not send it away over there. Bring it back to Ireland.

    Can i also ask....Is the transfer part of V5C to be completed and by whom? Do i complete declsration of export section and send from ireland?

    You need to explain to the seller that irish tax office will de-register it with Swansea.

    If they post it off, you are in for a world of hurt. Just get a receipt to show you paid for it and when. Just dont act the bollix and get any tickets on the way to the ferry which will automatically go to the seller.

    The DVLA is will not transfer ownership to a non UK resident.

    Point the UK seller to this information - https://www.gov.uk/taking-vehicles-out-of-uk

    If they don't play ball then walk away as you will not be able to register the car in Ireland without the car's V5C.
